Delivery on long term promise to the community for a multipurpose indoor facility in the Southern corridor with the PCYC installed as managers to run programs for all ages.

Following the purchase of a 20 hectare site on Thomson Road by CRC, the Cairns Go kart Club has been working on a track design suitable for their requirements. The track will also be suitable for driver training use and Criterion cycling events. The finishing touches have been put to the business case in readiness for an application to State and Federal agencies.

This intersection at Armstrong and Cattle St saw an upgrade from Give Way to stop following numerous drivers failing to pay due care and attention. Making our Community safer.

Green St in front of Piccone’s IGA saw a reduction in speed limit, and a narrowing of the road to slow traffic creating a safer environment for pedestrians. Another safety initiative for our Community.

Delivery of the new home for Junior and Senior Softball and Junior Baseball. A new home for Mulgrave Cricket Club with two ovals featuring turf wickets and a large all weather indoor nets facility for training. Mulgrave Cricket now enjoy 3 new fields, 2 with turf wickets and the best indoor training facility north of the Sunshine Coast. It doesn’t get much better than this if Cricket is your game.

Southside Comets Football Club now have the best facilities in the region with two permanent full size fields and the potential, in the event of hosting a large regional carnival of scaling up to 6 – 8 fields.

From purchase of adjacent site to discussions with stakeholders and project delivery of two extra rectangular fields shared between Southside Crusaders Rugby Union and Edmonton Storm Rugby League. Subdivision of surplus land into 12 new allotments allowing CRC to return approximately $1,000,000 to ratepayers when all lots are sold.

I have been attending First Peoples Advisory Committee meetings where there has been much discussion around the progress towards an Indigenous and Multicultural Centre for Cairns and what form it should take and where it should be located. Talks are ongoing to bring this idea to fruition.

CRC has identified a prospective site for the construction of a new significantly larger Library facility in the Edmonton area to cope with future growth and will be proceeding with Community consultation in the near future.

Established Thomson Road Edmonton on approx. 40 hectare site purchased by CRC, now includes storage facilities for Cairns Museum exhibits with the Men’s Shed members taking on restoration duties in a win/win community partnership. Having been a foundation member of the Edmonton Men’s Shed a recent visit showed me just how far they’ve come. Hard work, numerous grant applications and support from CRC have certainly paid off. The Men’s Shed now works closely with the Cairns Museum at the Cairns School of Arts building in Shields St maintaining and restoring exhibits stored in the purpose built shed nearby.

Provision of Walking/Cycling Pathways: Approximately 4 Kilometres of new walking/cycling pathways have been delivered in Div. 2 including Mount Peter Rd to Graham St, Golden Grove Dr to Idalia St, through Todd Pk to Meteor St, Idalia St along the creek to Hardy Rd, Hardy Rd to Robert Rd, Adonis St/Meteor St connection to Todd Pk, from St Therese’s Robert Rd to Templar Cr, Hambledon Dr to Hartill St, Trafalgar Rd to Barnard Dr, connecting community from Mount Sheridan to Edmonton. Golden Grove Dr closes the loop connecting Idalia St, Hardy Rd and Robert Rd. allowing people to walk or cycle off rode almost all the way from one end of Div 2 to the other. In addition to the footpath on the Western arm of Golden Grove Dr the Eastern side has been the beneficiary of speed reduction devices as you turn left out of Idalia St heading South to Robert Rd. These safety measures appear to have stopped the damage being caused to properties on the left and right side of the road when drivers lost control due to excess speed. Keeping People Safe and Connecting Community. Works are ongoing with more paths planned in coming years.

CRC assumed responsibility from the Qld State Govt. for land on Thomson Road and provided $100,000 in funding, surplus fill was sourced (free of charge) from a development in Gordonvale and with support from club sponsors $300,000 worth of work was carried out to redesign and rebuild the track.

New facilities upgrade at Trafalgar Road Park with full shade sale cover for the kids who certainly are enjoying themselves.

One of our newer parks for the more adventurous, Lou Piccone Park is situated on Outlook Drive in Timberlea nestled into the hills and surrounded by forest.

Recent upgrades at Boyce Street Park have included a new kids playground and a “hot shots” keyhole basketball court, but if basketball isn’t your thing, there is a set of dual Rugby/Soccer posts to sharpen up your goal kicking or making some diving saves.

Right in the heart of Edmonton Fuller Park has been home to many sports and community groups over the years. With the Edmonton Cenotaph it plays a big part every ANZAC Day. Down the back there are BMX jumps and a bituminous bump track for many 2 wheeled sports and a great kids play facility, (yes the shade sail is on it’s way). There are 2 enclosed dog off leash areas, one for bigger dogs and one for smaller dogs and a recently resurfaced basketball court. The Park Master Plan shows 2 full sized rectangular fields and CRC is engaged with several proposed user groups. Watch this space.

Sunrise Park in Bathurst Drive recently underwent a major upgrade with a new play area in this well shaded part of Bentley Park.

Robert Road: New Skate facility, resurfacing and renewal of Basketball court including large undercover shade area, Flying Fox line, Multipurpose Rugby/Football field and renovations to BMX jumps.

If Tennis is your thing, then Down Park is the place to be. Home to Edmonton Tennis Club and Down Park Community Hall, a great kids playground, basketball facility and outdoor picnic area. The Southern end of the park has been home to both Rugby League and Rugby Union.

When Logomeir Rd was completed so was the pathway connecting Bicentennial Rd and Ravizza Dr to Walker Rd making so many Sporting and Community facilities in Edmonton, Timberlea, Bentley Park and Mount Sheridan more easily accessible to everyone. Connecting Community.
